I moved to Germany and found my first apartment

I moved to Germany without knowing the local rental market and had to figure out everything from apartment searches to documents, viewings and landlord communication. I can share what I actually did, what slowed me down and what I wish I had known before starting the search.

I learned quickly that finding an apartment was not simply about finding a place I liked. I had to prepare documents in advance, respond quickly to listings and understand what landlords expected from applicants. Some apartments received a large number of applications almost immediately.

I can talk about how I organized my search, which documents I prepared beforehand, how I approached viewings and how I compared the real monthly cost of different apartments. I can also share some of the mistakes I made during my first weeks and how I eventually made the process much more manageable.
